Hi, I am new to this site and looking for someone who can repair a Tatman boat that I inherited from my brother.  I believe it is 16' long.  The side panel, top rail, and rib are damaged on the bow of the boat.  I am attaching a picture.  I want to fix the boat right and not just patch it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So how did this happen?  Is there more damage we're not seeing to the chines and battens?  The photos show 2 large cracks, are they on the same side or different sides?  It is definitely not a patch job.

I can repair it... Where are you located? If i cant i can help find someone who can.

Cheers

I am located in Creswell, OR.  I have a large shop where the boat is now stored.  I am willing to do any labor help, just don't have the fine carpentry skills.  -M.

They are the same crack from different angles.  Hit a big rock in Fish Ladder on the Upper McKenzie.  I am located in Creswell, OR.

Unfortunately i am in Montana. You might try Mike at Baker Wooden Boats. http://www.bakerwooddriftboats.com/

I'd do it.  contact me to talk. friend me here or email.

How does one go about fixing something like this?Would you be able to cut out the whole damaged area in one shot? Then scarph in a new piece, would the boat keep its shape or would you have to build some supports to hold the boat in place.

Hope I never have to do something like this but it would be handy to know.

Tungsten, AJ and the Jackson Hole folks are great at doing repairs on damaged boats. The link below will get you started on how they have done it. Essentially you are cutting out the old, damaged plywood and then scarfing in new plywood. A half-lap scarf is just one of the possibilities.
