Hi. I am hoping to get a number of replies regarding types of rope y'all are using on your rowing seats. What do you like (or not like) and why? Anyone find the magic formula for diameter, comfort, and stretch?

I followed Mike Baker's lead and used 2" webbing - dacron I believe - very comfy.
Anybody using rope on their rowing seats these days? :-)
CW,
I have been using a 1/2 inch diameter "cheap" rope that I purchased at a local box store. It sucks! I have to keep adjusting it after every time I use the boat. I use a throwable marine cushion to compensate for the stretch. I have had to cut off 6-8 inches and re-tie it to the turnbuckle after I ran out of adjustment. I like the seat but need a better line to eliminate the constant stretching of the cheap rope.
West Marine sells several sizes and types of Lanyard Line. I was considering a 1/2 inch diameter at 2.4% for about $ 2.00 a running foot. Good news they have it on sale until Sunday at 20% off.
I stopped by the local store last week to inquire and they told me to wait until this week and it would be on sale the 16 Th through the 19 Th.. They sell better line at less than 1% stretch but the cost is close to $5.00 a foot. Take a look at their website, I think you can order it there and have it shipped to you.
i am going there tomorrow and buy the 2.4% stuff. It's gotta be better than the stuff I now have.
Hope this helps,
Dorf
I bought 250' of 3/16" poly rope to wrap a set of 3 oars ($27 @ qualitynylonrope.com with free shipping). I had enough left over to do my seat. The old rope was either 1/2 or 3/8, so I basically did the seat twice with one continuous piece of rope, it is comfortable. 15 months and 250 river miles later and the seat and wraps are in great shape.
