In replicating the Edith I have, with no little reservation, replicated the original copper strips nailed over the exterior chines. 3" wide, full length, lapping an inch and a half up the side and the same onto the bottom. People keep asking me why they had copper-covered chines and I have no answer. It's too soft to really protect anything, yet it will most certainly hold in water, silt and rot. Any thoughts on why this was originally done?

P.s. I leave for Cataract Canyon with Edith on Wednesday morning, so will fall out of the conversation for a while. I'll catch up in a couple weeks.

Brad, good luck on the upcoming trip! May the waves be perfect, the excitment and adventure multitudinous and the peace and quite exquisite!

I'm with you Brad. In the long run that method is just a bad idea.  It sure is beautiful for the repro though.

I think it is one of those ideas that sort of makes sense if you haven't built or repaired a boat. The fact that we don't see it used today would mean that people figured out it wasn't the best solution.

Have a great time on your trip.  I envy you.

Hi Brad... have a great trip and be safe, please.  You remember that commercial where the guy says "I liked the product so much I bought the company?"  Well - I couldn't afford the Contour Company that makes those HD hat cams I'm so crazy about, but I did become their exclusive distributor of Contour HD products to the Fishing, Hunting, White Water crowd as well as all Outdoor Lodges.

For your next adventure, they authorize me to give you anything you want on their web-site at a 25% discount.  Some pretty cool stuff and we're going to come up with some even better stuff for drift boats, rafts, etc....

Dang! I ended up getting a GoPro, but when I wreck or lose that I'll be in touch!

I love that hat mount!

Brad
