Weekend Boat Progress (5.31.09)

Hey everyone,

Thought I would post a few pics taken this weekend.

I managed to get the floorboards fit using the barrel bolt method. So basically each floor section can be popped out by simply releasing 2 barrel bolts. I built a mount for the barrel section into the frame itself, and then mounted the receiver section on the bottom of the floor slat stringer. You can see it better in the pics. I still need to sand out the floor boards and get them oiled. Eventually I would like… Continue

New Progress Report 5.11.09

Boat progress from the past week.

Thought I would post some progress this morning... took a few pics yesterday as I was cleaning up... Probably would have moved a little further yesterday, but it was Mother's day so I called it early.

The horns are on the kneebrace and rough sanded to take the hard edges off.

The flyline deck is fit and about ready to be varnished.

After carefully measuring and re-measuring I drilled the frames to accept the seat pipes for the… Continue

Progress Report 5.5.09

Been mixing steelhead trips in with my boat building so progress has slowed a bit.

During the next few weeks I plan to get after it pretty good. We saw lots of boats on the river producing fish - which motivated me to get to work!

Here are a few pics of the latest work done on the boat. I have the transom and stem cut to the shape I want.

The casting deck, horns and knee board have all been fit into place. I used a slightly different approach to how the fly line deck goes… Continue

Progress Report 4.11.09

Happy Monday fellas...

Well had some time the past week to work on the boat.

Finally turned her over and started working on the rails and stem/transom angles.

As of the now the rails are glued on with the holes drilled for the bolts to pass through... I will install the bolts after the rails are varnished. I pre-varnished the one side of the interior rails because it seemed impossible to get at the area after it was attached. I did not want to varnish before assembly… Continue

Progress Report 3.29.09

Hey fellas,

Well I am finally done with the bottom of the boat! I am happy with the results and ready to turn the boat over...

I installed the the false stem and chine caps. The chine caps proved to be a bit of a challenge as I am working alone... but after some negotiating they went on without too much trouble...

After the chine was on - I filled the gap between the chine and the rounded fiberglass bottom with EZ Fillet (that stuff is pretty easy to work with - and takes… Continue

Fiberglass Bottom Install

Hey everyone - hope you all had a nice weekend.

I managed to get some time in on the boat... and get the fiberglass laminated to the bottom. (24 oz woven roving)

Having never really worked with fiberglass I was a bit apprehensive, but I have to say it turned out pretty good, and was not too bad to work with. It was cool to wet out the cloth and watch it go from thick white cloth to almost clear. Good thing about the bottom on these boats is they are flat, I could image laying cloth… Continue

Bottom Install 3.6.09 (Image Heavy)

Well I made time to get the bottom on the boat this past weekend... and now it is really starting to look like a boat!

I basically dry fit all the screws and did any last minute sanding to make a tight fit all around. Spent the afternoon making a mess with the 5200 and before you know it, it was glued and screwed on.

Last night I planed the overlap from the bottom to match the sides and used the belt sander to make it a smooth joint.

I snapped some images during… Continue

Weekend Progress - Chine

Happy Monday morning everyone...

Wish I had longer weekends to work on the boat, but she is coming along at a steady pace.

Not a ton to report in terms of progress - although I did get the chines in the boat this weekend.

That particular job took me a good amount of time.

But after some choice words, some splinters, and maybe too much coffee... they are in.

Here are a few pics of the process. Forgot to take a pic of the completed install - but you guys know what it… Continue

Progress Report 1.25.09

Well guys, it is Sunday, and I was able to log some hours on the boat build this weekend.

Attached the stem, transom, and installed all the frames.

Needless to say, it is cool to see the boat take shape.

Can't wait to get the chine log in and get the bottom on.

Here are a few pics of the progress.

Thanks for looking!…

Progress Report 1.18.09

Well it's time for another progress report.

Here are some images of the boat progress from the past couple days.

Started building the ever-important rowers seat... dry fit everything and drilled the holes for the rope pipes. Made sure everything was looking square. I will probably return to this later and glue it up - then get is rough sanded.

Then I moved my operation to the garage. Which I managed to keep comfortably warm all day : )

I was preoccupied with… Continue

Progress Report 12.27.08

Happy Holidays everyone. Hope you all have some time off to relax and enjoy time with friends and family.

Well the busy holiday has kept me on the go... but I have been able to sneak in some build time.

Worked on the front passenger seat - getting the hinge fit and screwed together. I will probably not attach the lid permanently to the seat frame until I decide which finish I am going to use on the interior. The seat backs are glued and rough sanded as well.

The weep… Continue

Boat Progress 11.30.08

Hello everyone - Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend.

I am happy to report I found some time in between family functions to get some work done on the boat.

Most of my work has been on the interior appointments thus far - as well as the frames.

Managed to get 7 of 9 frames rough sanded in the past week, basically getting them cleaned up after I glued them and sanding the excess glue out of the angles on the interior side of the frames... they look decent even though I… Continue

Progress 11.21.08

Here are a few pics from the work shop...

Been contending with a vehicle issue - blew up the transmission on my van... ouch

But on the brighter side I did get a new Forester with a tow package for the boat!

But in the meantime I have been getting some work done on the boat.

Here are a few pics.

Have the passenger seat under control - glued up the backs today.

Have all the frames glued and will be sanding those out next.…
